Sport Relief | Gregathlon

Updated: Jan 20, 2020

With the highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland to climb and lots of cycling in between, plus an unprecedented weather warning - they named it 'The Beast from the East'...

BBC Radio 1's Greg James completed the challenge raising £1,090,052 for Sport Relief. I joined the BBC Radio 1 and the Sport Relief team on the road for Part 2 of Gregathlon: Pedal to the Peaks, producing live social media coverage from the road and halfway up Ben Nevis.

With the Beast from the East at his heels and three huge mountains to climb and pedal to, nothing would stop Greg James from finishing the Gregathlon. He only went and did it raising £1,090,052 for Sport Relief.

Going live on social media from a mountain with the tail end one of Britain's biggest storms relentlessly pushing us side to side was a unique experience, but we did it. The aim of the game was to stir up support and engagement online as Greg pedalled his way across the UK with BBC Radio 1 broadcasting from the road, all in the name of mental health.

During the night of TV, we caught up with Greg James backstage.

My proposal for a GIF booth was signed off and helped build anticipation from behind the scenes during the Night of TV. A few famous faces got involved... Zoe Ball, Davina McCall, Joe Wicks and Alex James. We worked with The Flash Pack to make this happen.
